With November approaching, I want to talk about something we still don’t discuss enough. The impact of sex, intimacy and relationships on men’s mental health.
For generations, men have been told to toughen up, stay strong and hide their emotions. But that pressure doesn’t disappear when they get into relationships or climb into bed!
Stress, anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties can affect sexual desire, confidence and performance. And when things don’t work as expected, many men experience shame, embarrassment and feelings of inadequacy.
But a man’s worth isn’t measured by his sexual performance, penis size or how often he has sex!
And intimacy isn’t just sex. It’s affection, laughter, touch, honest conversations and feeling safe enough to be vulnerable. Sometimes a cuddle without expectations means more than anything happening between the sheets.
So here are my 10 top tips for men’s mental health and connection:
- Talk about what’s really going on.
- Stop believing you must always be strong.
- Make time for genuine connection.
- Look after your physical and sexual health.
- Set boundaries and learn to say no.
- Stop comparing yourself to other men.
- Give yourself permission to feel.
- Find activities that bring you joy.
- Ask for support when you need it.
- Remember, your feelings and needs matter too.
And to the partners reading this, sometimes the greatest gift you can give a man is the space to talk without judgement, pressure or expectations.
Remember, being vulnerable doesn’t make you less of a man. It makes you human.
You don’t have to perform, provide or pretend everything is fine. You deserve affection, connection, understanding and support too.
It’s time to stop hiding and start living. 🔥
